You should read this to find out how much you can go wrong. Especially when it comes to modern technologies and their usefulness.

After two decades online, I’m perplexed. It’s not that I haven’t had a gas of a good time on the Internet. I’ve met great people and even caught a hacker or two. But today, I’m uneasy about this most trendy and oversold community. Visionaries see a future of telecommuting workers, interactive libraries and multimedia classrooms. They speak of electronic town meetings and virtual communities. Commerce and business will shift from offices and malls to networks and modems. And the freedom of digital networks will make government more democratic.


Baloney. Do our computer pundits lack all common sense? The truth in no online database will replace your daily newspaper, no CD-ROM can take the place of a competent teacher and no computer network will change the way government works.


Consider today’s online world. The Usenet, a worldwide bulletin board, allows anyone to post messages across the nation. Your word gets out, leapfrogging editors and publishers. Every voice can be heard cheaply and instantly. The result? Every voice is heard. The cacophany more closely resembles citizens band radio, complete with handles, harrasment, and anonymous threats. When most everyone shouts, few listen. How about electronic publishing? Try reading a book on disc. At best, it’s an unpleasant chore: the myopic glow of a clunky computer replaces the friendly pages of a book. And you can’t tote that laptop to the beach. Yet Nicholas Negroponte, director of the MIT Media Lab, predicts that we’ll soon buy books and newspapers straight over the Intenet. Uh, sure.


What the Internet hucksters won’t tell you is tht the Internet is one big ocean of unedited data, without any pretense of completeness. Lacking editors, reviewers or critics, the Internet has become a wasteland of unfiltered data. You don’t know what to ignore and what’s worth reading. Logged onto the World Wide Web, I hunt for the date of the Battle of Trafalgar. Hundreds of files show up, and it takes 15 minutes to unravel them–one’s a biography written by an eighth grader, the second is a computer game that doesn’t work and the third is an image of a London monument. None answers my question, and my search is periodically interrupted by messages like, “Too many connectios, try again later.”


Won’t the Internet be useful in governing? Internet addicts clamor for government reports. But when Andy Spano ran for county executive in Westchester County, N.Y., he put every press release and position paper onto a bulletin board. In that affluent county, with plenty of computer companies, how many voters logged in? Fewer than 30. Not a good omen.

Then there are those pushing computers into schools. We’re told that multimedia will make schoolwork easy and fun. Students will happily learn from animated characters while taught by expertly tailored software.Who needs teachers when you’ve got computer-aided education? Bah. These expensive toys are difficult to use in classrooms and require extensive teacher training. Sure, kids love videogames–but think of your own experience: can you recall even one educational filmstrip of decades past? I’ll bet you remember the two or three great teachers who made a difference in your life.


Then there’s cyberbusiness. We’re promised instant catalog shopping–just point and click for great deals. We’ll order airline tickets over the network, make restaurant reservations and negotiate sales contracts. Stores will become obselete. So how come my local mall does more business in an afternoon than the entire Internet handles in a month? Even if there were a trustworthy way to send money over the Internet–which there isn’t–the network is missing a most essential ingredient of capitalism: salespeople.


What’s missing from this electronic wonderland? Human contact. Discount the fawning techno-burble about virtual communities. Computers and networks isolate us from one another. A network chat line is a limp substitute for meeting friends over coffee. No interactive multimedia display comes close to the excitement of a live concert. And who’d prefer cybersex to the real thing? While the Internet beckons brightly, seductively flashing an icon of knowledge-as-power, this nonplace lures us to surrender our time on earth. A poor substitute it is, this virtual reality where frustration is legion and where–in the holy names of Education and Progress–important aspects of human interactions are relentlessly devalued.

The project consisted of four major parts: the fixed volume of the structure, the void, fixed volume and the mobile volume, respectively. When the turning boxes are closed, the building captures sunlight throughout the space of the central void, which also connects the two fixed volumes by suspended bridges. Amazing 6-Year-Old Kid Rollerskate Under 39 Cars

Gagan Satish is a six-year-old boy who is a roller skater from Bangalore, India. He flattened himself and passed underneath 39 cars, squeezing in a space of seven inches above the ground on his roller skates. Gagan covered the distance in 29.8 seconds and emerged unscathed from the 20 centimetres of space underneath the SUVs.

This feat has landed Gagan to stake claim for an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.


The wonder kid, who goes to a primary school, began skating at the age of three, harnessing his extreme flexibility to master and specialise in limbo- skating. Gagan’s father, Rajanna Satish, who runs an washing machine service centre, too was ecstatic over his son’s feat.



According to wikipedia, limbo skating is a sport in which a person drives on roller skates underneath an obstacle like a horizontal pole without touching it. In order to pass an obstacle with a very low height, advanced athletes spread their legs apart, if possible into a full split, and lean their upper body forward, with the face almost touching the ground.

Israelis Are Taking "Bomb Shelter Selfies"

The 16-day conflict has claimed the lives of 718 Palestinians, most of them civilians, Palestinian health officials say. Israel has lost 32 soldiers, all since July 17, when it widened its air campaign into a full-scale ground operation aimed at halting rocket fire from Gaza and destroying a sophisticated network of cross-border tunnels.

Taking cover in safe rooms, bomb shelters, and stairwells can be a terrifying experience for many Israeli citizens , but dozens of people have posted smiling selfies on Facebook.  Sara Eisen, a resident of Beit Shemesh in central Israel, even started a Facebook page called “Bomb Shelter Selfies.”


She said it is also a way of showing the world that the Israelis are not going to let the attacks get to them. not everyone approves of these selfies. Twitter users have pointed out that Gaza residents do not have the luxury of posing for bomb shelter selfies during Israeli air strikes


As an Al Jazeera television reporter speaking in Gaza City commented that there were no bomb shelters for Palestinian Arabs to use or air raid sirens to warn of an imminent aerial attack.

Shocking Satellite Images of Destruction in Gaza

The United Nations this weekend released images showing the destruction in Gaza caused by fighting between the Israeli military and Hamas militants.

The pictures show areas in Gaza before the conflict began on July 6 and the damage done by July 25. The images also identify structures that have been destroyed and “severely” or “moderately” damaged in Gaza City, Toffah, Shijaia and Shaaf.


The devastation is extensive.


The U.N. tallies 604 destroyed structures and 236 more with heavy damage, though the information has yet to be validated on the ground. Sections of the Gaza satellite image are swathed in red and orange, indicating a huge number of structures either eradicated or nearly toppled.


Displaced Gaza residents returned home during a 12-hour ceasefire this weekend, though many came home to rubble where their houses had stood only days before.


The U.N. map also marks the locations of mosques, hospitals and schools, some in areas that have taken the heaviest toll during the fighting. Israel has been criticized for bombing areas near schools and hospitals. The Israeli government has countered that Hamas is hiding weapons in those locations and sheltering among civilians.


More than 1,030 Palestinians have been killed during the conflict, many of them civilians. Two Israeli civilians have died, along with 43 soldiers.

Smoke From Israeli Rocket Strikes Turned Into Powerful Images

The history of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict started in the late 19th century and early 20th century. This is when two major nationalist movements among the Jews and among the Arabs araisen. This conflict came from the intercommunal violence in Mandatory Palestine between Jews and Arabs from 1920 and erupted into full-scale hostilities in the 1947–48 civil war. The conflict continues to the present day on various levels.

It has recently been escalated, but many supporters of both sides can agree that any innocent civilian lives lost during the conflict are a tragedy.


Several Palestinians have found their own way to grieve for the dead and to cope their strong emotions about the conflict – by drawing images that they see in the smoke rising from the sites of Israeli rocket strikes.


We can only hope that this violence between Israel and Palestine comes to an end as soon as possible.

It wasn’t found to be the deepest until 2001, when an expedition of the Ukrainian Speleological Association reached a depth of 5610 feet, besting the previous record, Lamprechtsofen in the Austrian Alps, by over 250 feet. History was made yet again in 2004 when Krubera was found to be more than 2000 meters (6561 feet) deep.

In some ways, caving is an even more extreme activity than high altitude climbing. Descending to the bottom of Krubera takes a team of dozens of people over a month, a month during which they’ll never see the sun.

There are already ways scientists can create artificial pancreases so this isn’t as crazy as it sounds. This means that we will get to replace any organ in our body with a new one. We will get to do this over and over again until technology is advanced enough so that our actual organs can last forever.

They have been around commercially for three decades, in the form of the cochlear implants used in the ears (the outer reaches of the nervous system). They can help stimulate the brain for people who have had strokes or head injuries. This technology will most likely ensure that our brains will never degenerate and our memory will never delete or get destroyed. These will be used as a supplement for our natural blood cells and they will be thousands of times more effective. Also, they will allow healing and repair to be nearly instant and will ensure that the cells in our body never decay, allowing us to never age or maybe we could even grow younger instead of older!

A cyborg, short for “cybernetic organism”, is a being with both organic and biomechatronic parts. In fact, for some of us that future has already arrived. Cyborg technology has advanced to the point where it’s safe to say that bionic humans are no longer the stuff of science fiction.

Cryonics is an effort to save lives by using temperatures so cold that a person beyond help by today’s medicine might be preserved for decades or centuries until a future medical technology can restore that person to full health.


Currently, around 200 people have had this procedure since 1962. In the United States, only people who are pronounced clinically dead can have cryonics performed. The only problem, the technology does not yet exist to bring these people back to life, without killing them. But it is possible that someday this will change.

The Berlin Wall was a barrier constructed by the German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany) starting on 13 August 1961, that completely cut off (by land) West Berlin from surrounding East Germany and from East Berlin.

The Eastern Bloc claimed that the wall was erected to protect its population from fascist elements conspiring to prevent the “will of the people” in building a socialist state in East Germany. In practice, the Wall served to prevent the massive emigration and defection that marked East Germany and the communist Eastern Bloc during the post-World War II period.


The Berlin Wall is perhaps the most well-known wall ever. It took a lot of effort to put it together and these are the people that gave it their all to make it happen.



The life in the West was much better than in the East after 1948. West Germany including West Berlin had got financial help through the Marshallplan from the USA. In East Germany a communist system was established and many people had to suffer under repressions of the Communist party.


Berlin was an especially tender spot, because it was the only gap in the Iron Curtain. People in West Berlin could fly out of the city freely. Huge numbers of them did leave. By 1960, tens of thousands of people were leaving every month. In 1961, more than 200,000 East Germans had defected by summer. [source: Schmemann].


The barrier included guard towers placed along large concrete walls, which circumscribed a wide area (later known as the “death strip”) that contained anti-vehicle trenches, “fakir beds” and other defenses. Between 1961 and 1989, the wall prevented almost all such emigration. During this period, around 5,000 people attempted to escape over the wall, with an estimated death toll of over 100 in and around Berlin, although that claim is disputed.


In 1989, a series of radical political changes occurred in the Eastern Bloc, associated with the liberalization of the Eastern Bloc’s authoritarian systems and the erosion of political power in the pro-Soviet governments in nearby Poland and Hungary. After several weeks of civil unrest, the East German government announced on 9 November 1989 that all GDR citizens could visit West Germany and West Berlin. Crowds of East Germans crossed and climbed onto the wall, joined by West Germans on the other side in a celebratory atmosphere.

Over the next few weeks, euphoric public and souvenir hunters chipped away parts of the wall; the governments later used industrial equipment to remove most of what was left. 24-year-old Vin Los is an aspiring model from Montreal, Canada. He’s desperately trying to become famous so he has written provocative words all over his face. His goal, according to Vice, who did an in-depth feature with the Canadian, is to become the most famous man in the world. He said:


“I want to be the most famous man who who ever lived” (…)

“I did it to become the icon of pop culture, even bigger than Marylin Monroe.”


While I’m not sure he will achieve his goal, his facial tattoos are certainly making sure that Vin is currently being written about.


But for me it looks like he woke up after a failed party, with the entire face beeing written by drunken colleagues…

There Are Beaches Where You Can Find Lego Instead Of Sea Shells

In 1997, the cargo ship Tokio Express was hit by a massive wave 20 miles from Cornwall, England. When the ship tilted it lost 62 containers that fall into the sea. One of the them held nearly five million pieces of Lego.

Amazing Giant Transformers Build By Chinese Farmers

The success of the new Transformers film in China has been staggering, becoming the country’s highest-grossing film ever in a matter of days. In its first 17 days of release, the film has grossed $260 million, 50 million more than prior record holder Avatar.

To cash in on this Transformer-fever, farmers in China’s Shangdong province have been building their own Transformers from old car parts and other scrap materials. On July 16, 1969 the three Apollo 11 astronauts - Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin “Buzz” E. Aldrin – left the Earth and took off for the Moon. They returned heroes in a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean on July 24. It was possibly the most productive 8 day trip in human history.

Facebook Performed A Secret Psychology Experiment On Their Users Without Telling Them

Were you a Facebook’s lab rat? There is 0.04 percent chance you were.


In early 2012 Facebook performed secret psychology test in which they manipulated the posts being seen by nearly 700,000 users to to find out how they respond to positive and negative messages.


“When positive expressions were reduced, people produced fewer positive posts and more negative posts; when negative expressions were reduced, the opposite pattern occurred. These results indicate that emotions expressed by others on Facebook influence our own emotions, constituting experimental evidence for massive-scale contagion via social networks.” - wrote a team of Facebook scientists, in a paper published by the PNAS journal.


The Facebook COO has apologised for the manipulation and said they never meant to upset users with the secret research. But I still think it’s more than a little bit of abuse. And what do you think?

Examples Of The Golden Ratio You Can Find In Nature

The famous Fibonacci sequence has captivated mathematicians, artists, designers, and scientists for centuries. Also known as the Golden Ratio, its ubiquity and astounding functionality in nature suggests its importance as a fundamental characteristic of the Universe.


We’ve talked about the Fibonacci series and the Golden ratio before, but it’s worth a quick review. In mathematics, the Fibonacci sequence are the numbers in the following integer sequence: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144… and so on forever. Each number is the sum of the two numbers that precede it.


The Fibonacci sequence is seen all around us. Let’s explore how your body and various items, like seashells and flowers, demonstrate the sequence in the real world.



As you probably know by now, the Fibonacci sequence shows up in the most unexpected places. Here are some of them:


1. Flower petals


number of petals in a flower is often one of the following numbers: 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34 or 55. For example, the lily has three petals, buttercups have five of them, the chicory has 21 of them, the daisy has often 34 or 55 petals, etc.


2. Faces


Faces, both human and nonhuman, abound with examples of the Golden Ratio. The mouth and nose are each positioned at golden sections of the distance between the eyes and the bottom of the chin. Similar proportions can been seen from the side, and even the eye and ear itself.


3. Body parts


The Golden Section is manifested in the structure of the human body. The human body is based on Phi and the number 5.The number 5 appendages to the torso, in the arms, leg and head. 5 appendages on each of these, in the fingers and toes and 5 openings on the face.


Animal bodies exhibit similar tendencies.


4. Seed heads


Typically, seeds are produced at the center, and then migrate towards the outside to fill all the space. Sunflowers provide a great example of these spiraling patterns.


5. Fruits, Vegetables and Trees


Spiraling patterns can be found on pineapples and cauliflower.  Fibonacci numbers are seen in the branching of trees or the number of leaves on a floral stem; numbers like 4 are not. 3′s and 5′s, however, are abundant in nature.


6. Shells


Snail shells and nautilus shells follow the logarithmic spiral, as does the cochlea of the inner ear. It can also be seen in the horns of certain goats, and the shape of certain spider’s webs.


7. Spiral Galaxies


Spiral galaxies are the most common galaxy shape. The Milky Way has several spiral arms, each of them a logarithmic spiral of about 12 degrees.


8. Hurricanes


It’s amazing how closely the powerful swirls of hurricane match the Fibonacci sequence.


9. DNA molecules


The DNA molecule measures 34 angstroms long by 21 angstroms wide for each full cycle of its double helix spiral. These numbers, 34 and 21, are numbers in the Fibonacci series, and their ratio 1.6190476 closely approximates Phi, 1.6180339.

I don’t know what to say… When I first find this information I could not believe it’s true. But while searching for more information I find lots of very disturbing articles from around the world. What is worse, they confirms my fears – Nestle is going to privatize water. And they don’t try to hide it!


In an interview for the documentary We Feed the World, Nestle Chairman Peter Brabeck makes the astonishing claim that water isn’t a human right. He attacks the idea that nature is good, and says it is a great achievement that humans are now able to resist nature’s dominance. He attacks organic agriculture and says genetic modification is better.



Nestlé currently controls more than 70 of the world’s bottled water brands and is a global leader in this lucrative multi-billion dollar market.

Nestlé is draining developing countries’ groundwater to make its Pure Life bottled water, destroying countries’ natural resources before forcing its people to buy their own water back.


Here is just one example, among many, of his company’s concern for the public thus far:


In the small Pakistani community of Bhati Dilwan, a former village councilor says children are being sickened by filthy water. Who’s to blame? He says it’s bottled water-maker Nestlé, which dug a deep well that is depriving locals of potable water. “The water is not only very dirty, but the water level sank from 100 to 300 to 400 feet,” Dilwan says. Why? Because if the community had fresh water piped in, it would deprive Nestlé of its lucrative market. Once again big profits are more important than the health and lives of people. OUR LIVES!


If you do not do something to stop them now, it might be to late.


We can’t do much, only signing online petitions (there are lots of them from around the world!).  I’ve personally stop buying Nestle’s products. And remember our “secret” weapon is our knowlegde! We shouldn’t let them to fool us.

Bicycle Escalator Helps Cyclists in Norway Climb Hills

In the city of Trondheim, Norway lies a hill that’s big and steep enough to deter casual cyclists. To help promote cycling in the city and give the environmentally friendly activity a ‘lift’, a bicycle escalator called the Trampe was installed.


With this awesome bike escalator cyclist just places a foot on the platform and lets it push him (or her) up the hill with speed about 3-4 miles per hour.

The circumstances surrounding the assassination of former president John F. Kennedy and who was REALLY behind it has been debated and analyzed since the tragedy occurred on November 22, 1963. Many believe there is no way only one man could be behind it and that Oswald wasn’t acting alone.


Most current theories put forth a criminal conspiracy involving parties as varied as the CIA, the Mafia, anti-Castro Cuban exile groups, the military industrial complex, sitting Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, Cuban President Fidel Castro, FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, the KGB, or some combination of those entities.

Some believe that government officials were warned of the impending attack and did nothing to stop it. Proponents of these conspiracy theories claim there are inconsistencies in the official conclusions, or evidence which was either ignored or overlooked.


The most prominent conspiracy theory is that the collapse of the Twin Towers and 7 World Trade Center were the result of a controlled demolition rather than structural failure due to impact and fire.

The Pearl Harbor conspiracy theory states that US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt had foreknowledge of the attack on Pearl Harbor and deliberately allowed the Hawaiian base to be attacked as a way to convince the American public into supporting the US joining World War II.

Various alternative theories have arisen speculating about the hidden origins of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), ranging from suggestions that they were the inadvertent result of experiments in the development of vaccines to claims that they were intentionally developed by scientists working for the U.S. government.


Some believe the World Health Organization created the virus in a laboratory as a means to control world population.

The term New World Order or NWO refers to the emergence of a totalitarian world government. This is a supposed secret society of influential people all over the world who some believe are set on drastically reducing the world’s population in order to have unified control over it.


Numerous historical and current events are seen as steps in an ongoing plot to achieve world domination through secret political gatherings and decision-making processes.

When man walked on the moon for the first time in 1969, many refused to believe it and instead insist it was hoax staged by NASA and US goverment in order to win the Cold War.


Conspiracists have managed to sustain public interest in their theories for more than 40 years, despite the rebuttals and third-party evidence. Opinion polls taken in various locations have shown that between 6% and 20% of Americans and 28% of Russians surveyed believe that the manned landings were faked.


#8 FEMA’s Plastic Coffins

The discovery of over half a million black plastic coffins outside of Atlanta, GA led some to believe the government is preparing for martial law and the deaths of thousands.


Conspiracy theorists said president Obama has been operating behind the scenes to prepare an action in case of an American revolt that will not only squash a revolution, but kill many of its participants. The first step of this action would be to disarm the American people, and throw anyone that is, or might be, a threat into a detention center — a FEMA camp. During the course of the revolt, many will die, both in battle and in the camps — an inevitable circumstance Obama is already preparing for.

Since 1997 it has been claimed that there was an orchestrated criminal conspiracy to end the life of Diana, Princess of Wales. Many believe she was murdered in an elaborate scheme by the British royal family. They believe her ex-in-laws were embarrassed by the Diana’s new relationship with Dodi Fayed and wanted to avoid further scandal by simply taking her out of the picture.
