The Ebola virus infecting and killing people in West Africa is the worst recorded outbreak, according to the World Health Organization. This is no longer just a threat to African countries. Cases of infection have been found in Europe, and now in the USA.
The first case of Ebola in a patient diagnosed in a U.S. hospital was confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Tuesday.
Ebola is a viral illness of which the initial symptoms can include a sudden fever, intense weakness, muscle pain and a sore throat, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). And that is just the beginning: subsequent stages are vomiting, diarrhoea and – in some cases – both internal and external bleeding.
According to BBC, disease infects humans through close contact with infected animals and then spreads between humans by direct contact with infected blood and bodily fluids, or indirectly through contact with contaminated environments.
