We love a good soundtrack. It boosts a product considerably. If it wasn’t for Cliff Martinez, College, and Electric Youth, Drive would probably be only half the film it is. A soundtrack can make something effortlessly cool, with songs becoming synonymous with them. Look at The Graduate. Mrs Robinson, The Sound of Silence, and Scarborough Fair all remind us of the Dustin Hoffman classic.
And the same applies to gaming. Music has become a major part of it, from online gaming to console gaming, whether it be ambient music or entirely important to the story.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Of course we have to start with Vice City. Put the car radio on and you’ll be blasted with a host of 80s classics, with sing alongs, head boppers, and plenty to get your groove on. You almost forget about the missions and just want to cruise.
Toto’s Africa is your token power ballad, whilst Billie Jean, Two Tribes, and Spandau Ballet’s Gold all add a bit of variety to your drive. In fact there are over 100 80s classics for you to skip through.
Streets Of Rage 2
Taking a step back from modern day gaming and into the 90s when the Sega Mega Drive ruled the roost, Streets of Rage 2 inspired a whole new generation of soundtracks. Scored by Yuzo Koshiro, it brought techno to the world of street fighting, and indeed the console itself.
Pushing boundaries with the consoles capabilities, its futuristic sound bizarrely still holds up to this day, and of course we’re going to leave you with a little taste…
Max Payne 3
Another scoring masterpiece put together by Rockstar games (the creators of GTA), Max Payne 3 features incredible drum beats and synth effects which drew critical acclaim.
Composed by LA band HEALTH, the tunes added a dark and tense sound to reflect the mentality of the lead character, adding so much to the game itself, and just like Drive shows the importance of music in entertainment. It’s most certainly the best original soundtrack to a game for some time, with Tears being a clear standout. It’ll take an awful lot to be beaten…
