Amazing Hanging Walkway Connects Two Offices

The isolation from nature, sunlight and fresh air that many of us experience in offices can make working in them depressing and tiring. Zalewski Architecture, a Polish architecture firm, has created a quirky concept that aims to solve all of this – a narrow, winding outdoor walkway that connects offices, allowing workers to go for a walk on its green, grassy surface.

The concept may be difficult to implement due to building permits, but office workers around the world probably appreciate the thought!

The design is suspended over a courtyard, meaning that it is supported on all sides. The narrow walkway creates a fun, winding grassy path but also serves another purpose – at only 80cm (31in), it minimizes the amount of sunlight that the walkway blocks from the courtyard below. The reflective underside also helps blur the walkway’s lines for viewers looking up at it from below.

Police Department Gives Touching Farewell to K9 Officer

Judge was a K9 cop from West Deptford, NJ.  He was suffering under Cushing’s disease that causes an overproduction of hormones from the adrenal glands.  Then, several tumors can develop, and organs can also enlarge.  Finally, hair loss and a weakened immune system causes all kinds of other complications, and is extremely painful.

He had to be put down but on his last trip to the vet all of his fellow police officers showed up to salute him and pay their respects. And there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Meet Miracle Mike - World Famous Headless Rooster

In 1945, a genuine miracle happened on the farm of Clara and Lloyd Olsen in the dusty town of Fruita, Colorado. On the fateful day of September 10, the Olsen’s were having Clara’s mother join them for dinner. Clara dispatched Lloyd to grab a chicken for the evening meal.

So, Lloyd picked a fine young rooster, lined up his ax, and cut off the chicken’s head. However, instead of dying, the now-headless rooster stumbled around for a moment, shook off the blow and continued on his merry way.

Lloyd was shocked, but simply selected another chicken for dinner that night.

desktop-1424807545

The next morning the headless chicken, who would soon become known as Mike, was still alive. Lloyd let him live and began feeding him grain using a medicine dropper.

To find out how the chicken survived decapitation, Lloyd loaded Mike in his truck and drove 250 miles to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The professors there determined that the ax had missed Mike’s jugular vein and a clot had stopped Mike from bleeding out. Most of Mike’s brainstem was also intact, which allowed him to continue living a more or less healthy life.

desktop-1424807546

In short time Mike was dubbed “The Headless Wonder Chicken”. He even had his own managers and made appearances in Life and Time Magazine. Mike was even insured for $10,000.

18 months after he first lost his head, sometime in the middle of the night, Mike began choking. Something had slipped down his exposed esophagus. Sadly, they were unable to save Mike in time.

While he may no longer be with us, the legacy of Miracle Mike the headless chicken lives on. For the past 17 years, the residents of Fruita have held an annual festival to honor the most famous headless chicken who ever lived.

This Buddha Statue Holding Extraordinary Secret

This Buddha Statue from the 11th or 12th century looks like an ordinary one, but inside, there are the mummified remains of an ancient Chinese Buddhist monk whose organs have been replaced by ancient Chinese scrolls.

Scientists knew that there was a mummy inside the statue, but the CT scan gave them their first close-up look at the skeleton inside. A CT scan of a Buddhist statue from the 11th or 12th century has revealed an extraordinary secret – it houses the mummy. That’s when they discovered the hidden paper scrolls and figured out that the mummy was the body of Liuquan, an ancient Buddhist master from the Chinese Meditation School.

Bewitchingly Beautiful Glowing Waters In The Blue Grotto Sea Cave

The Blue Grotto cave is a natural wonder known for the brilliant and mystical blue hue of the walls and the water.

Other colors are absorbed in the water and only blue light reaches the interior of the cave. As a result whole 54 m long and up to 15 m deep cave is illuminated with a mysterious, phosphorescent blue light. Visitors to the cave are illuminated from below, and if one puts his hand in the water, the skin is glowing eerily. One more interesting feature is sulphur springs at the bottom of cave – thanks to this the cave is very rich with marine life.

Once upon a time, or the 1st century A.D., Roman Emperor Tiberius retired to the Isle of Capri, Italy, and used this beautiful Blue Grotto, a sea cave, as his personal swimming pool. Emperor Tiberius loved the Blue Grotto so much that it was his favorite nymphaeum, a temple dedicated to sea nymphs…also described as a sanctuary for water nymphs.

Blue waters of Grotta Azzurra seem to glow, but the illumination was considered eerie for centuries after Tiberius. The Blue Grotto, known as Gradola long ago to locals, was abandoned and “feared by local sailors because of legends of spirits and demons which inhabited the cave.” But in 1826, the cave was “rediscovered” by German poet and painter August Kopisch and his friend, painter Ernst Fries. Kopisch described its extraordinary beauty in a book

There are many local legends abound about the Blue Grotto according to Savory Adventures: “Was it really the home of the Nereidi–fifty nymphs of the sea in Greek mythology, each of them personified by slow soft waves that brought that brought calm and serenity to those who entered their abodes? You be the judge. According to legend, during moonlit nights, the Nereidi danced and sang in the proximity of the coastline near Positano bay, chosen for its clear waters and excellent acoustics to echo their enchanting songs.”

The cavernous interior, known as the duomo (cathedral), rises from seven to 14 meters (46 feet); the water below is 13 meters (42.6 feet) deep. The cave has two entrances – a smaller one (1.5 m wide) at the waterline and at least ten times larger one – below the sea. A small 1 – 2 m thick barrier below the sea level divides both entrances. Thus – a little sunlight enters through the upper hole – and this bright spot of light does not allow to see the large hole below it. A lot more light enters through the enormous underwater hole.

Weird But Beautiful Way Ancient Maya Used To Decorate Their Teeth

The Maya are probably the best-known of the classical civilizations of Central America. Their civilisation was renowned for its many great achievements before Spain conquered its lands. The Mayas made great strides in the fields of astronomy and mathematics. They built massive pyramids with no modern tools. The Mayas also invented the field of cosmetic dentistry, but it was much different from what you might imagine.

The Mayas often went to their dentists, but not for fillings or to get a new crown put on. They went to have their teeth beautified with gemstones. From what anthropologists have found, Maya citizens from all levels of society had their teeth decorated, regardless of class.

The result may have looked cool, but the process was undeniably painful. A dentist would have likely used a makeshift drill made from obsidian to punch a hole in the front of a tooth. They would then use a natural adhesive to place the gemstone in the hole. The fact that they were able to do such fine work speaks to an amazing knowledge of tooth anatomy.

While glowing car paint is already available, as are glow-in-the-dark car wraps, the bespoke, ultraviolet-energized paint created especially for Nissan is unique thanks to its secret formula made up of entirely organic materials. It contains a very rare natural earth product called Strontium Aluminate, which is solid, odorless and chemically and biologically inert.

Worst ever bet?

by  Steve Snodgrass

There are bets that go south and some – like the famous Archie Karas, who burned through $40 million in the space of three short Las Vegas weeks in 1995 - that make it all the way to the South Pole. But for our money the worst bet ever was one that won.

This wasn’t a wager about the outcome of a sports event or even a matter of a high roller like Archie K in a casino, this was something altogether worse.

Brian Zembic is a professional gambler and part-time magician. But since 1996 he has had more than just a few tricks hidden up his sleeve.

Whatever it was about the mid-1990s, Zembic had it in spades. He was bet $100,000 by a ‘friend’ that he would not dare have a boob job. What’s more, they obviously discussed this in some detail, he insisted that to claim the cash Zembic had to keep his new cans for more than a year.

Nineteen years on and Zembic is still proudly sticking out his surgically enhanced chest as a proud winner. In fact, as part of the package he pulls in an additional $10,000 for every year he keeps it up.

Avoiding an outcome like Mr Zembic’s is fairly straightforward. Our advice would be ‘don’t make bets when there’s tequila in the room’.

More seriously, there are increasingly clever ways to tilt the odds in your favour, especially when it comes to sports bets. For example, the betfair math betting app is capable of calculating all the data that feeds into the assessment of a football match.

It means that however crazy your own judgement might be – and there are definitely some people who need this more than others – you ought not to be too far away from coming out on the right side of the deal. There are also apps that will help you through the complexity of poker and other casino games, but that’s another story.

The bottom line is there is a winning space – somewhere between Archie Karas and Brian Zembic – that is easier to reach than ever before. And the very good news is that it doesn’t have to involve either seeing your money head south or having to fork out for new underwear.

Local newspapers in Mogolia are reporting that scientists recently found a mummified monk in the Songino Khairkhan province. His body has held up pretty well considering the circumstances and it’s clear to see that he was in a meditative state when he passed.

Senior Buddhists say the monk, found sitting in the lotus position, is in very special spiritual state known as ‘tukdam’ and not dead… and is instead one stage away from becoming a real-life Buddha.

The monk was discovered after being stolen by a man hoping to sell him on the black market.

View of the Dark Side of the Moon

What the other, the dark side of the Moon looks like? The side that can’t be seen from the Earth?

Why Do We Only See One Side of the Moon?

You may have heard references made to the “dark side” of the Moon. This popular term refers to the fact that the same physical half of the Moon, the “near side”, is always facing Earth, which in turn means that there is a far side or so-called “dark side” that is never facing Earth and can only be seen from space.

So why can we only see one side of the moon from Earth? We all know that the Earth rotates on its own axis, so theoretically, the Moon should also do the same, allowing us to get a full picture of the planetoid. Why are we limited to seeing only 50 percent?

It turns out that the speed at which the Moon rotates has led to this particular phenomenon. Millions of years ago, the Moon spun at a much faster pace than it does now. However, the gravitational influence of the Earth has gradually acted upon the Moon to slow its rotation down, in the same way that the much smaller gravitational influence of the Moon acts upon the Earth to create tides. This influence slowed the rotational period of the Moon to match that of its orbit – about 29.5 days – and it is now “locked in” to this period.

If the Moon didn’t spin at all, then eventually it would show its far side to the Earth while moving around our planet in orbit. However, since the rotational period is exactly the same as the orbital period, the same portion of the Moon’s sphere is always facing the Earth. [via]

Stuff They Don't Want You To Know About Nikola Tesla

When impoverished inventor Nikola Tesla died in New York City, the U.S. government confiscated his notes. Why? Were they trying to steal his technology? Did they ever relinquish the notes?

Perhaps one of Tesla’s most famous inventions deals directly with energy, something that is the talk of many social and political conversations and something that could be free to everyone if we used Nikola Tesla’s invention. Over the years, as more and more people begin to recognize the game being played in our society, Nikola Tesla and his story has been becoming more and more popular.

This is natural as the increase in people educating themselves outside of the education system leads them to amazing bits of information that otherwise stay hidden.

Pakistan Is So Beautful But You’ll Probably Never See It In Person

Earth is a beautiful place full of wonders. Unfortunately it is inhabited by people and they are the one’s who f&%k things up. Thanks to politics and wars, some parts of the world are extremely difficult to see (unless with a gun in your hand..). Take a look at the following set of photos that feature one of the most visually dynamic places that you’ll (probably) never see in person.

Republic of Pakistan is a sovereign country in South Asia. It has a 1,046-kilometre (650 mi) coastline along the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman in the south and is bordered by India to the east, Afghanistan to the west, Iran to the southwest and China in the far northeast.

The territory that now constitutes Pakistan was previously home to several ancient cultures, including the Mehrgarh of the Neolithic and the Bronze Age Indus Valley Civilisation, and was later home to kingdoms ruled by people of different faiths and cultures, including Hindus, Indo-Greeks, Muslims, Turco-Mongols, Afghans and Sikhs.

The area has been ruled by numerous empires and dynasties, including the Indian Mauryan Empire, the Persian Achaemenid Empire, Alexander of Macedonia, the Arab Umayyad Caliphate, the Mongol Empire, the Mughal Empire, the Durrani Empire, the Sikh Empire and the British Empire. As a result of the Pakistan Movement led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the subcontinent’s struggle for independence, Pakistan was created in 1947 as an independent nation for Muslims from the regions in the east and west of Subcontinent where there was a Muslim majority. Initially a dominion, Pakistan adopted a new constitution in 1956, becoming an Islamic republic.A civil war in 1971 resulted in the secession of East Pakistan as the new country of Bangladesh.
